Teamwork Technologies
Teamwork Technologies is a small consulting company that I own and
operate. The company offers a range of training programs aimed at
development of teams and workgroups. We specialize in work with
culturally and otherwise diverse teams and workgroups. Our programs
range from one-time seminars and workshops to large-scale
comprehensive team-development projects. We also offer adventure-
based outdoor teambuilding programs for corporate clients.
Although profitability is an important part of the company’s mission, the
main purpose of Teamwork Technologies is to provide a testing ground
for our research projects in the area of cross-cultural team dynamics.
Therefore, some of our services my be provided free of charge if the
training program provides an opportunity for applied research and
theory development.
Sample Standard Cross-Cultural Training Programs
Cross-Cultural Teambuilding
The training program is focused on teambuilding supplemented with
elements of general cross-cultural training. The emphasis is on
teamwork in cross-cultural context, i.e. work in cross-cultural team and
work with culturally diverse customers and colleagues. The training
session has two components: team building and cross-cultural training.
The purpose of the team building component is to improve the team
spirit through various teambuilding activities, discussions and exercises.
The purpose of the cross-cultural component is to learn more about
challenges of work in cross-cultural context and best practices of dealing
with those challenges. The list of specific topics includes communication
across cultures, cross-cultural differences in perceptions of justice,
issues of language, status and representation inequalities, stereotyping
and perception bias and others. The session is very interactive and
includes various educational activities, games and discussions. Each
time the program is redesigned to meet needs of a specific organization.
The length of the training may vary from a few hours to several full-day
sessions, depending on the needs and preferences of the client. The
sessions can be run indoor or outdoor. The programs has been
especially popular among organizations that employ culturally diverse
employees or work with customers of diverse backgrounds.
Challenges and Best Practices of Working in a Foreign Culture:
Training for Recent Immigrants
The training program is designed for recent immigrants to help them in
adapt to and integrate in their host society. The program focuses on
specifics of North-American national and work-related culture,
challenges internationals are typically experiencing upon immigrating to
a new country, and the best practices for dealing with those challenges.
The list of the specific topics includes communication across cultures,
cross-cultural differences in perceptions of justice, issues of language,
status and representation inequalities, stereotyping and perception bias
and others. The issues are discussed in the workplace context. The
format of the session is an interactive lecture, i.e. while some parts of the
material are delivered “lecture style”, all introduced concepts are
discussed with the class and supported by activities and educational
games. The ultimate goal of the training program is to prepare
internationals for work in North American organizations, to minimize work-
related culture shock and to prepare them for dealing with challenges of
working in a new cultural environment. Each time the program is
redesigned to meet needs of a specific organization. Typically, the
program length ranges from a two to eight hours, depending on the
preferences and needs of the client. The program can be split in several
sessions. The program can be run indoor or outdoor. The program has
been especially popular among organizations that provide settlement
services for recent immigrants.
