Research Interests: Culture and Work-Related Acculturation

Research Up To Date

Culture is the foundation of all my research. In one way or another, all my research projects
relate to issues of culture. I have a series of publications on culture conceptualization and
measurement, cultural change, and effects of culture in the workplace, as well as reviews of
cross-cultural research. Please refer to my

work well in Beijing. However, being primarily interested in cross-cultural management in
domestic organizations, I am less concerned with cultural differences across nations. Rather
my interests lie in cultural differences between local and immigrant employees. Immigration
and cultural change are inseparatable issues, hence my interest in acculturation. Please

Special Projects

Culture Survey and Acculturation Survey Catalogues

I see my work on the Catalogues as public service. While collecting data for my
meta-analyses, I have run across numerous instruments for quantifying cultural values.
Although the descriptions of the instruments were initially catalogued strictly for the
meta-analytics project, soon it became a project of its own. As of today, I have collected
publicly-available detailed descriptions of 100+ survey instruments.
The catalogues contains original items, scale and scoring keys, reliability, etc. These
catalogues are a great resource for scholars who are either searching for an optimal survey
instrument for their study, or trying to develop their own culture or acculturation survey tool.
The catalogues have generated great interest in research community and I receive requests
and comments from scholars from around the world quite regularly.
While the Catalogues have not been formally published, several libraries contacted me with
a request for permission add printed versions of the catalogues to their collections
