Outsource Your Own Job
A great funny video on job outsourcing. It would help to present this video along with the
story about an IT employee who was sued by his Sillicon-Valley-based company that
accused him for outsourcing his own job. The man basically found someone in India who
was willing to do the job for half the pay. Since the work could be done on-line, all the guy
did was to forward his assignments to a guy in India and then get the results back and
submit them as his own work. He eventually ended up "working " five full-time jobs as an
IT specialist for different companies in the US, but all he really did was a middle man
between American firms and Indian employees. Now, all 5 jobs were effectively preserved
for American - there were five high salaries paid in the US, but something was not right,
right?
A nice starting pointing to the discussion on paradoxes (positives) of job outsourcing.

A CLASS DIVIDED
The famous Blue-Eyed vs. Brown-Eyed experiment.
An excellent example of how stereotypes are born, the negative consequences of
stereotypes and prejudice, how easy it is to divide a group based on stereotypes even if
the stereotypes are completely absurd.
Originally developed as a teaching tool on racial prejudice, but works very well in classes
on culture, ethnic diversity, immigration, and related topics.
Works well in conjunction with a review of studies that showed human propensity to in-
group favoritism, even if in-group / out-group division is completely nonsensical (e.g.,
studies that showed how a split based on a coin toss lead to inter-group wars and hatred,
even though both groups knew the group assignment was random.
German films Die Welle (The Wave, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1063669/) and Das
Experiment (The Experiment, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0250258/) are excellent additional
media materials on the topic you may want to show to your students.
